5 “Healthy” Foods to Avoid for Better Weight Management

If you’re a regular reader of the Herbal One blog, you know that the way to successful weight management is through a healthy, balanced diet coupled with the nutritional supplements your body needs to maintain your energy levels along the road to a healthier weight.

Unfortunately, not all ‘healthy’ foods help you lose weight. Some foods are marketed as ‘healthy’, but they are not as healthy as we think and not that good for your weight loss program.

  1. Multigrain Products – Food manufacturers have aligned multigrain products with the health benefits of whole grain breads and cereals. Multigrain products are made from a variety of grains, but they are not necessarily whole grains.
  2. Vitamin-Enriched Water Drinks– It sounds like a good idea: add vitamins to water for a healthy thirst quencher. Unfortunately, drink makers add lots of other stuff too, including significant levels of sugar and sodium. And the vitamins? If you eat a healthy, balanced diet, you will get all the vitamins you need – and more are not necessarily better.
  3. Frozen Dinners – They are SO convenient, many of them are lower calorie options and some have catchy names like Lean Cuisine. But read the nuitrition labels. In Herbal One’s research, one Lean Cuisine variety had twice the sodium of the same variety made by Michelina’s. Want to manage your weight successfully? Make more of your own meals so you know exactly what goes into them.
  4. Low-Fat Ice Cream – Is this the perfect food or what? Delicious ice cream without the fat. But beware. “Low-Fat” does not mean “low calorie”, “low sugar” or “healthy”.
  5. Granola Bars – Just the name sounds healthy and slimming. Indeed, granola is healthy and it makes a great snack. But in bar form it can contain as much sugar as some regular candy bars

It’s always difficult to know which foods, even ‘healthy’ choices, are really good for your weight management. If you have any questions, feel free to talk to your Herbal One nutritional specialist.
