How to Burn More Calories Without Really Trying – Part 2

Have More Fun With Your Activities

If you haven’t already done so, you should read How to Burn More Calories Without Really Trying – Part 1 before reading this post

In Part 1, we learned that most people tend to overdo their exercising and activities to the point where it makes it difficult to succeed. We also saw that measuring the effect of our activity only by our weight loss is not always

When you focus your activity on something that’s a little more fun and easier to achieve than lowering your weight, you’ll tend to stick with it for a longer time

It’s what happens when you make a game of getting more activity. It’s fun, easy to do and here’s one way to do it:

  1. Get a pedometer – You don’t have to spend much, you can get a fancy one later if you really get into it.
  2. Count How Many steps You Take in a Day – You might want to limit it to counting only the steps you take at work, or when you’re on your evening stroll. It doesn’t matter, as long as the activity is fairly consistent from day-to-day. Start with a day when you think you won’t be too active. This’ll make it easier to see early improvement. Record the date and the number of steps you took, either with pen and paper or on a computer spreadsheet. If you use the spreadsheet, you can use it later to make nifty graphs of your progress. If you feel like it, you can record other information too. Weather, comments and, yes, even your weight, but don’t get hung-up on it.
  3. Count Your Steps on the Following Days. Record them to see if your totals are going up or down.
  4. Try to Get Your Totals to Go Up a Little Each Day. But don’t go crazy walking all over the place. Just try simple things that won’t really change your day, like parking a little further away from the entrance each day.
  5. That’s the Game. Just try to find ways to do a few more steps than yesterday without really changing your daily routine. If you don’t manage to take a few more steps one day, who cares, just try again tomorrow.

If you stick with it, your routine will change by itself. You’ll start parking a little further away just about everywhere you go, and maybe you’ll get up from your work station to stretch your legs a little more often.

In any case, you’ll increase your activity levels, burn more calories and probably end up feeling a lot better about yourself.
