5 of the Best Snacks for Losing Weight

You’ve tried several times to lose weight, but you’re never satisfied with the results.

How do we know that? Weight loss isn’t easy and most people try ‘quick weight loss’ diets that inevitably don’t work.

Part of the problem is the conflicting information that dieters get from friends, family, the internet, even their doctors.

After the initial diet doesn’t work, many people move on to different programs that sound more promising, but yield similar results.

They skip meals, which doesn’t work. They go carb-free, which doesn’t work. They reduce calories significantly, which doesn’t work.

Truth: To Lose Weight Healthily, You Need to Eat

Your body can’t properly lose weight if it is starved for nutrition; nutrition that you get from food.

Healthy snacking can be an integral part of a weight loss program that not only helps you shed the pounds, but keeps them off too. Snacks cure the between-meal hunger pangs, reduce how much you eat at each meal and provide many of the nutrients you need to healthily lose weight.

To get you started, here’s a list of some ‘good for weight loss’ snacks:

1. Guacamole

“Dipping” makes snacks fun and protein-packed avocado helps fill you up without overeating. But keep an eye on your recipes for other ingredients, like too much salt, that might take away from all the goodness.

2. Edamame Beans

Just one cup of edamame gives you a third of your daily recommended protein and fibre. And research shows that if you can see the remnants of what you eat, you feel like you’ve eaten more – which means you’ll eat less.

3. Steel-Cut Oatmeal

It’s not just for breakfast. Add some chopped apple and it becomes a healthy mid-afternoon ‘pick-me-up’. Steel-cut oats are not processed nearly as much as rolled oats, they have fewer calories and have a lower glycemic index, which means they also won’t spike your blood-sugar as much as rolled oats.

4. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is more filling than regular yogurt and it has tons of protein. If you’re looking for a little more sweetness, mix in some raspberries, which will also add fibre and boost your energy.

5. Grapes & Walnuts

The sweetness in the grapes, the protein in the walnuts and the fibre in both combine to make this a tasty, filling snack that gives you lots of long-lasting energy. Grapes also give you a shot of resveratrol, an antioxidant that’s been shown to fight aging and obesity.

Like everything else, moderation is key when snacking. Too much of anything is usually not good for you.
