Oily Fish

Oily fish can improve also improve blood flow to the brain, which can improve thinking abilities. Salmon and tuna are examples of oily fish that you can include in your diet.

Whole Grains

Whole grains contain vitamin E, which improves your brain’s cognitive functions. It also contains antioxidant properties, which can help protect your brain cells. You could include brown rice, oatmeal, or whole grain pasta into your daily diet to get your daily dose of vitamin E.


Eggs contain vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, and folic acid. All of these can help prevent brain shrinkage and delay cognitive decline. You can include eggs into your breakfast, or even some dinner recipes, to give your brain more of these vitamins.

Leafy Greens

Broccoli, collards, spinach and kale contain many nutrients like vitamin K, lutein, beta carotene, and folate. These can improve your brain function by forming healthy fat inside brain cells, and improving your memory.


This is a spice that you can include in various dishes and even coffees. It is a dark-yellow spice that is found in curry powder. Turmeric has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can enter the brain directly. The brain-health benefits of turmeric include improved memory, helping to reduce the occurrence of depression, and promoting the growth of new brain cells.
