Make Weight Loss Easier By Adopting these Little Eating Habits
First, we didn’t say ‘make weight loss easy’! We definitely don’t want to let you down with false hope about your weight loss. Healthily losing weight takes a long term commitment.
But if there is any hope in the title, it is that not everything about weight loss has to be a big change to your life. Successful weight loss is the combination of a number of factors and some of those are relatively easy to do.
In fact, many people find the best way to start down the road to life at a lower weight is to just take the first small step. Instead of focusing only on the entire long journey ahead, just look at that easier-to-do first step. Then take it. Show yourself you can do it and then take the next step.
Another way that smaller weight loss tactics helps is by filling in the gaps between the bigger tactics. You can change your diet completely to healthy foods that will lead to weight loss, but never get there because you eat in front of the TV and eat too much. (Oops! That was going to be one we were going to tell you about below! Don’t eat in front of the TV or otherwise distract yourself when you eating. Enjoy your meal!)
8 Little Eating Habits to Help You Lose Weight
These may not work the same for everyone, that’s why we’re offering so many of them. Don’t be discouraged. Keep trying until you find something that works for you.
1. Spice it Up
People have one big complaint when they cut down on the excessive unhealthy fats, sugars and salt that are in processed foods. Their food tastes bland. Not only will tasty spices add new flavour sensations to your food, they can also help you feel full faster, so you eat less.
2. Eat an Apple a Day
If you’ve had relatively poor eating habits until now, something like an apple or a carrot probably doesn’t do much for you. But just start having an apple or handful of carrots a day and stick to it. Eventually, you’ll develop a taste for them and that can lead to eating other healthier foods. At very least, eat an apple before you grocery shop. Doing so has been linked in studies to making healthier choices when you get to the supermarket.
3. Try an Apple Cider Vinegar Drink Before Eating
Apple Cider Vinegar has been linked to a number of weight loss benefits, including stabilizing your insulin levels and improving digestion. Like all vinegars, ACV is acidic, so make sure to dilute the vinegar in water.
4. Chew, Chew, Chew
Starting chewing your food for a longer time. Try chewing 40 times before you swallow. Extra chewing forces you to slow down your eating. That can help you eat less as your brain will have time to tell your stomach that it is full before you overeat.
5. Enjoy Some Pleasant Aromas
Can you tell the moment your neighbour puts the burgers on the barbecue just from the tasty smell? But what about the scent of bananas, green apples and peppermint? If you happen to like those, research has shown that enjoying their scents before a meal can make you feel fuller faster.
6. Get Soupy
The bone broth that’s the base for many soups has lots of health benefits. But it can help your weight loss too. Broth is a good source of umami, which has been linked to making people feel fuller sooner. Umami is actually one of the five basic tastes, along with sweetness, sourness, bitterness and saltiness.
7. Try to Resist the Bread in Restaurants
Or at least don’t eat it first. Yes, you’re hungry when you go out to eat. Yes, you love all the varieties of bread that many restaurants offer. But, as a simple carbohydrate, eating bread before a meal can spike your blood sugar levels and increase your insulin production, and it all heightens your chances of weight gain.
8. Drink More Water
Yes, we do take every chance we get to tell you this one. But it works so well and it’s so easy to do. Drinking water throughout the day quite literally fills you up, so you eat less. But it also helps reduce inflammation, gives you extra energy to be more active and helps your digestion. All that from a glass of water.
