Overeating is common, especially when you are surrounded by yummy food. And, this can make it hard to tell when your stomach is full. You may think you are full when your plate is finished, but you could be full halfway through.
So, here is how you can know if you are overeating.
Finishing Meals Quickly
Sometimes, you can’t help but eat a delicious meal quickly. But, you may not realize that halfway through your plate your stomach was actually full. It takes 15-20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that its full. So try taking your time when eating meals to pay attention to what your stomach is telling you.
Bloating
Do you ever get a “food baby” after you eat? Well this tends to happen when you overeat. Your stomach may hurt or feel slightly hard as a result. Try to intuitively eat so you can avoid bloating.
Fatigue
If you overeat, you may feel an urge to take a nap almost immediately after. This is because your body released insulin in order to help digest large portions of food. As a result, the insulin in your body releases melatonin in your brain which leads to fatigue. It is not the best to nap right after you eat, so try to take your time throughout your meal.
Acid Reflux
Acid reflux happens when your lower esophageal sphincter cannot block stomach acid from getting into your esophagus. Overeating can increase your chances of getting acid reflux since it adds pressure to your esophageal sphincter, causing acid. So, try eating in small portions to give your body the chance to digest everything without adding pressure.
