How to Slow Down and Still Lose Weight!

Slowing down to lose weight might not seem to make sense. But, when you consider that many of the habits and attitudes you have can make it more difficult to lose weight, “slowing down”, being a little more focused and changing some of your perceptions will help you enjoy a higher level of weight loss success.

Slow Down Your Eating: An Osaka University study of 3,000 people found that eating meals too fast nearly doubles the chance of being obese. It takes about 20 minutes for the brain to receive signals that your stomach is full. If you eat your entire meal in 10 minutes, your brain will continue to tell you you’re hungry.

In addition to weight gain, overeating also stresses your body to deal with the extra food, which reduces your energy for other calorie-burning activities.

Slow Down When Exercising: You don’t need to be the biggest loser. It’s a mistake to use the enthusiasm you have for losing weight to extend your exercise program, push your body to its limits and have the attitude of “no pain, no gain”. Over exercising can actually make it more difficult to lose weight, especially if your body does not get the nutrition it needs.  To maximize your weight loss from an exercise program, you must balance your physical activity with giving your body the nutrition it needs. Consulting a nutritional counselor can help with both.

Slow Down Your Expectations: Everyone wants to lose weight, feel better and look better as soon as possible. But giving yourself difficult or unreasonable weight-loss goals will decrease your chances of lasting success. Every pound of fat you lose is the equivalent in calories (3,500) of almost two days of recommended calorie intake. That’s quite an achievement. It’s also achievable, and when you get there, it’s easier to lose more.
