How to Ruin a Great Weight Loss Diet

Maybe you’ve had some luck with a keto diet. Or maybe you’ve just started eating healthier, balanced meals. If you managed to lose weight and keep it off so far, you’re having more success than most.

But, while it’s a great accomplishment, it can become a problem. A problem that most people who are trying to manage their weight aren’t prepared for.

Losing your excess body weight is really just the first step towards living your life at a lower weight. The process that you and your body go through to lose weight is not the same as the process of maintaining your lower weight. And that can lead to many successful weight loss efforts to be unexpectedly ruined.

3 Ways to Ruin Your Weight Loss Success

The main way to wreck all your hard work is to think that you’ve reached the end. Yup, you managed to lose 30, 40, 50 or more pounds and this is the new you. How you’ll be forever, right? Well, only if you don’t let one of the following bad habits snatch your weight loss success away from you.

  1. Unhealthy Snacking – It may be the thing you missed the most during your weight loss program. So why can’t you enjoy at least some of your favourites now that you’re eating healthily? In addition to simply being full of empty calories, high in sugar and/or salt and not very nutritious, unhealthy snacks can cause you to start packing on the pounds in other ways too. They encourage mindless eating, or shall we say overeating. The lack of energy they cause will make you less active,  and their low nutrient content will increase your chances of illness. And all of those will increase your chances of adding more weight.
  2. Not Staying Active – We know what it’s like to get active when you simply don’t want to. You’re just not inclined to hop up after dinner and go for a walk. But if you managed to increase your activity levels while you were shedding weight, don’t give up on that just because you reached your target weight. Never underestimate the contribution that even relatively small amounts of regular activity make to your overall health and weight.
  3. Poor Sleeping Habits – This may not be something you adjusted to lose weight. But the idea is to understand that many seemingly unrelated issues can affect your weight. And not getting enough sleep may be one of the worst. The bottom line is that your body needs a good night’s sleep to heal itself, straighten out your thoughts and emotions, and generally recharge so you can go at it again tomorrow.

As a result of robbing you of the benefits listed above, lack of sleep can trigger a number of weight-encouraging issues, ranging from increased depression and anxiety, to poorer circulation and increased inflammation. If you were going to do just one thing to help maintain your weight loss achievements, a good night’s sleep would be it.
