5 Unusual Weight Loss Tips – Part 1

If you’ve ever seriously tried to lose weight before, the title of this post might not seem so odd. You’ll know there’s nothing ‘usual’ about weight loss. While fad diets, magazine articles and the advice of family and friends might all tell you that one thing or another will ‘blast away the pounds’. Everyone is different.

That’s why you might find that many the ‘usual’ ways to lose weight don’t work for you. So while we’re calling the weight loss tips listed below ‘unusual’. What they are mostly about is suggesting that some of the common ideas and directions for weight loss are not necessarily the best way to slim down.

If nothing else, we hope that these tips will help you to rethink your approach to losing weight and hopefully adopt one that produces long lasting, healthy weight loss.

1. Don’t Try to Lose Weight

At least not right away. One of the worst mistakes you can make when trying to reduce your weight is to jump right into it. Healthily losing weight is not a straight-line, cut calories and you will permanently lose weight proposition.

Yes, the simple rule of thumb that, if you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight is true, there’s nothing simple about making it happen. That means before you begin, you need to do your research, educate yourself, talk to a nutritional consultant and even to the aforementioned friends and family to get as good an understanding of weight loss as you can.

In other words, just like any journey, the first step to weight loss isn’t to start to lose weight, it is to prepare yourself for the journey. The more you prepare, the higher your chances of success.

2. Don’t Focus on Weight Loss Exclusively

Sticking with the ‘journey’ analogy, every journey has its ups and downs. A vacation can start with a flight delay, include wonderful experiences you never thought possible, produce stomach cramps, and leave you relaxed and refreshed.

The journey to a lower weight is no different. It often starts off with early successes (which the fad diets claim is ‘proof’ that they work) as the easy water-retention weight comes off. But there are also days where you might not see any weight loss or you might even gain weight despite the massive effort and sacrifices you’re making.

If your only focus is to lose weight, the journey will be more difficult because of the many inherent ups and downs of weight loss. Instead, include eating healthier foods in the right proportion and balance as part of your goal. make it a point to learn more about nutrition and what your body needs to support healthy weight loss. When you do, you’ll be more prepared for the bumps in the road and simply move past them, instead of letting them throw you off the path.

If weight has always been a problem for you, you know what it feels like for it to be ever-present in your life. It’s there every time you look in a mirror, every time you put on your clothes and every time you walk into a room.

But don’t think that nothing can work for you or that it’s your metabolism or some other thing ‘wrong’ with you. Transforming your approach to reaching your goal weight, away from quick-fix diets and impossible exercise routines can be the difference.
