How Melissa McCarthy Lost Weight
In 2015, Melissa found out she would be co-starring in a film with Jude Law. She used the project to kick-start her weight loss efforts. Here’s some of what she’s experienced.
- She’s a Victim of “Yo-Yo” Dieting – “I’ve been every size in the world”, says Melissa. But she also says that, even when she was a six or an eight, she didn’t appreciate it. She just wanted to be a two or a four.
- She’s a Body-Positive Proponent – Melissa feels that none of us should worry so much about appearances. She posted the following to Instagram in 2016.
“We have to stop categorizing and judging women based on their bodies. We are teaching young girls to strive for unattainable perfection instead of feeling healthy and happy in their own skin,” she’s quoted as saying.
- She Lost 50 Pounds Because She “Stopped Worrying About It” – That’s literally what she said in an interview. She added that she felt there was something about “kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked”.
- She Started Exercising More – To get ready for the movie, Spy, Melissa started working with a martial arts instructor.
If how she appeared at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival is any sign, it looks like Melissa has managed to turn her weight loss into a lifestyle change. Many people felt that, long after she first lost the weight, she’s looking slimmer than ever.
