How to Survive a Cocktail Party with Your Weight Loss Program Intact

You’ve lost some weight. You’re eating well, getting a little more active and generally feeling better physically and mentally.

Then, to top it all off, you get an invitation to the party of the year. Everyone will be there and you can’t wait to have fun, enjoy their company and celebrate the new you.

But be careful. You’ve been working hard on your weight loss and it’s natural to want to reward yourself. All the sugary, salty and fatty foods that are typically served at parties can knock your weight management off track. You know how much effort it took to get there, and it will take even more to get back.

Fortunately, keeping your weight management intact doesn’t mean you need to ruin your fun at the party. By keeping your goals in mind and using a few simple tips, you can have a great time and stay on the path to a healthier weight.

  1. Eat before you go. So far, you’ve lost weight by taking control of what you eat and making sure you got proper nutrition. Eating a healthy meal along with your nutritional supplements before you go to the party helps to control your appetite at a time when party foods will be tempting you.
  2. Find out what you’re eating. Whether it’s your host or catering staff, just ask them what’s in the foods they serve. If they prepared the food, they’re usually quite happy to tell you how they did it and with what ingredients. If you’ve managed to have some success with weight loss, you should have a fairly good idea of what’s good and bad for you.
  3. Drink water – Having water before, during and after the party helps suppress your appetite and reverses the dehydrating effects of alcohol.
  4. Dance! – Or at least mix n’ mingle as much as you can. Staying on your feet, walking around and chatting with your friends and family will help you burn off some of the extra calories you might consume at the party.

Enjoy the party. We all need to relax and have fun with our friends and family. And you can look forward to even more fun and enjoyment when you come home and realize that you stayed on target for your weight loss goals.
